1. Who we are and what this covers
Poise is the controller of the personal data processed through the Poise mobile app, the website at www.poisedating.co, and the services behind them. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at valentin@poisedating.co.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the app.
2. What Poise does
Poise shows you dating and social events, and clubs, run by independent hosts in your city. You browse them, and when one interests you, you tap through to that host's own page to book a ticket or to put your name down. Some parts of the app, a deck of practice challenges and a set of lessons, are ours and sit behind a subscription.
We are not the organiser of the events and clubs we list. That matters for your data as well as for the booking itself, and Section 6 explains exactly what a host does and does not learn about you.
3. Information we collect
a) Your account
An account is required. You create one at the end of onboarding with Sign in with Apple on iPhone or Sign in with Google on Android. We receive an account identifier from Apple or Google and, if you allow it, your email address, which on iPhone may be Apple's private relay address. We use these to identify your account and to restore your data to a new phone. We do not use them for marketing.
b) Your onboarding answers
During onboarding you tell us your first name, your age, whether you are a man, a woman or non binary, who you want to meet, your relationship status and your city, along with your goals, interests, values, how social you feel and how you want to meet people.
These answers are held on your device and a copy is saved to your account on our servers. Six of them, your name, age, gender, who you want to meet, relationship status and city, are also stored as a profile row so we can count how many people are waiting for events in each city and who those events would be for. Some of this is sensitive data, and Section 5 sets out exactly how we treat it.
c) What you do in the app
- Events and clubs you open: when you tap through to a host's page, we record one row for your device against that listing, with your account identifier attached when you are signed in. Opening the same listing twice is still one row. This is how we tell a host how many people were interested (see Section 6).
- The city you are looking at and the venue you pick for the practice deck.
- Your progress: challenges you accept, complete or skip, the lessons you finish, your level and your streaks. After a completed challenge the app asks how you feel, and stores your answer as one of four choices. There is no free text and no recording: the app does not collect written notes or voice notes of any kind.
- Support messages you send us.
d) Purchases
Subscriptions are sold by Apple on iPhone and Google Play on Android, and managed for us by RevenueCat. We receive confirmation of your subscription status and transaction identifiers. We never receive or store your card details.
e) Collected automatically
- Usage and analytics: screens viewed, features used, session length and similar product analytics, so we can see what works.
- Device and technical data: device model, operating system version, app version, language, and a device identifier that the app generates for itself.
- Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data.
Reminders about a running challenge are scheduled on your phone by the app itself. They do not pass through us or through Apple's or Google's push services, so we hold no push token for you.
f) Location, once, if you allow it
On the city step of onboarding the app can ask your phone roughly where you are, so it can offer your city instead of making you find it in a list. That reading is turned into a city name on your device and then discarded. We never store your coordinates and we never track your location. If you say no, or your phone cannot tell us, you pick your city from a list and nothing is lost.
g) Our website
Our website, www.poisedating.co, counts page views and taps on the store buttons and on listings, using PostHog. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not link a visit to your account.
4. How we use your information, and our legal bases
| Purpose | Legal basis (GDPR/UK GDPR) |
|---|---|
| Run the app and show you events and clubs you are eligible for | Performance of a contract |
| Keep your account and restore your data to a new phone | Performance of a contract |
| Process and manage your subscription | Performance of a contract |
| Use your gender, who you want to meet and your relationship status, as described in Section 5 | Your explicit consent (Section 5) |
| Count how many people opened a host's listing, and tell that host | Our legitimate interests in running a listings service that hosts will use |
| Count the audience by city, so we know where to sign up hosts | Your explicit consent, where the count uses the data in Section 5; otherwise our legitimate interests |
| Send you reminders you have turned on | Your consent |
| Analytics, improvement and debugging | Our legitimate interests in improving the app |
| Safety and preventing misuse | Our legitimate interests; legal obligation |
| Answer your messages and support you | Performance of a contract; legitimate interests |
| Comply with the law | Legal obligation |
If you are in the United States, we process this data to provide and improve the service as described above.
5. Sensitive ("special category") data
Your gender, who you want to meet and your relationship status say something about your sex life or sexual orientation, so the law treats them as special category data. We are specific about them.
Where they are held. On your device, in your account on our servers so a new phone can restore them, and in a profile row attached to your account.
What we use them for, and nothing else.
- To decide which events reach you. A host says who their night is for. The app compares that with your answers on your own device and hides the nights that are not for you, so a night for gay men does not turn up in a straight woman's feed.
- To count the audience. We count how many people in a city are men, women or non binary, and who they want to meet, so we know where an event would have a room and can tell a prospective host that. These are counts. A host is never given your name, your email, your age, your answers or anything else that points at you.
We do not use this data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with other users.
We process it with your explicit consent, which you give during onboarding. You can withdraw it at any time by erasing your data in the app, which deletes your account and the profile row with it. Withdrawing does not affect anything we did before you withdrew. If you withdraw, you cannot go on using the app, because choosing who an event is for is what the app does.
6. Events, clubs, and the hosts who run them
Every event and club in the app is run by an independent host, not by us.
What a host gets from us. A number: how many people opened their listing, and how many of those were signed in. Nothing that identifies you.
What happens when you tap through. The button on an event or a club opens the host's own website in your browser, and you leave Poise. Whatever you then give that host, your name, your email, your payment, the answers on their own application form, goes to them under their terms and their privacy policy, not ours. We have no control over it and no sight of it. Read their policy before you hand anything over.
7. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it with:
- Apple and Google, for sign in, app distribution and payments.
- RevenueCat, for subscription management.
- Supabase, which hosts your account, the data saved to it and the listings themselves.
- PostHog, for product analytics and crash reporting.
- Hosts, who receive counts only, as set out in Section 6.
- Authorities or third parties, where the law requires it, to enforce our Terms, or to protect anyone's rights, safety or property.
- A successor, in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
Our providers process your data on our instructions and are required to protect it.
8. International transfers
Your data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where we move data out of the UK or the EEA we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum.
9. How long we keep it
Your data stays on your device for as long as the app is installed, and in your account until you delete it. Erasing your data in the app removes both. Analytics are kept in a form that is not linked to your account. Subscription records held by Apple, Google and RevenueCat are kept under their own policies.
10. Your rights, and how to erase everything
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, to portability, to withdraw consent at any time, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither), and not to be treated differently for exercising any of these.
You do not have to ask us to delete your data. Settings, then "Erase all my data", deletes your account and everything stored against it on our servers, and then wipes the copy on your phone. If we cannot reach the server, the app stops and tells you rather than wiping only your phone. Log out leaves your account intact and clears the phone.
For anything else, write to valentin@poisedating.co. If you are in the UK or the EU you may also complain to your local data protection authority, which in the UK is the ICO.
11. Security
We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and database rules that let an account reach its own rows and no one else's. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
12. Children
Poise is for people aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us data, write to valentin@poisedating.co and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new "last updated" date and, for material changes, tell you in the app.
